Two Tunjas (1974-1989) : from when the city doubled its territorial occupation

Abstract

El quinto libro de la colección Tunja Siglo XX demuestra que la ciudad crece 1.74 veces respecto de su pasado, lo cual puede considerarse como si en 14 años el área urbana se hubiera duplicado. De otra parte, en Tunja se produce una metamorfosis física, en el ambiente, la fisonomía y la cultura de los habitantes. La ciudad despierta y se transforma radicalmente respecto a aquella que había sido de carácter colonial, tal como afirma Antonio Martínez Zulaica en las editoriales del periódico La Tierra. Los capítulos tratan de: el primero, la transformación en el periodo; el segundo, las formas de crecimiento urbano del periodo; el tercero, el planeamiento urbano del período;  el cuarto, la dotación de servicios públicos domiciliarios; el quinto, espacios públicos; el sexto, equipamientos e instalaciones industriales y, el séptimo, las urbanizaciones de vivienda formal e informal. 

The fifth book of the 20th Century Tunja´s collection shows that the city grows 1.74 times regarding the past, which can be considered as if in 14 years the urban area had doubled. On the other hand, in Tunja there is a physical metamorphosis, in the environment, the physiognomy, and the culture of the inhabitants. The city awakens and is radically transformed with respect to what it had been, of colonial character, as Antonio Martínez Zulaica affirms in the editorials of the newspaper La Tierra. The chapters deal with: the first, the transformation in the period; the second, forms of urban growth; the third, the urban transformation by the pilot plan of 1958; the fourth, the provision of public household services; the fifth, public spaces; the sixth, industrial equipment and facilities and, the seventh, urbanizations of formal and informal housing.
